If there is one thing about good ol’ corporate South Africa, it’s that there is a sport that these well-paid humans are throwing money into - back in the day it was golf, it then slowly ticked over to cycling and now, Padel has come in with a BOOM!

Padel has been one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, including South Africa. Its been described as a combination of tennis and squash.

‘Tell us what you are on about, Tarzan!’ - Sure, here it goes:

• Like padel, pickleball has been one of the fastest growing sports in the US - 22.3million payers in the States

• Pickleball is as close as you get to Padel as any sport can get!

• An American bank decided to investigate the sport and ended up finding crazy injuries and health care costs!

• The analyst has forecasted 366,000 pickleball-related doctor visits that result in 4,700 hospitalisations and 8,800 surgeries.

• Its expected to have a total health care cost of around $500m for 2023.

Tarzan wonders if the corporate bros playing Padel would follow suit.

In South Africa, there are roughly 1 million active Padel players. There has been a significant number of injuries reported but experts say it’s not because the sport is more dangerous than others! RATHER, the average age of players is far older than that of similar sports!

When you get a bunch of people between the age of 30 and 65 (who have most likely not been very active beforehand) and tell them to jolt up and down on a court - What did you think was going to happen?!

So let Tarzan help! The most common injury = the Achilles tendon. This is due to the lack of blood supply in this region as you get older. 

Stretch those damn ankles people! Start slowly so that your body can get conditioned to the new sport! Lastly, keep stretching and don’t overexert yourself!

Gone are the days of just listening to music or taking calls on your AirPods:

• Apple is reportedly adding a new hearing health feature to some AirPods models supported by iOS 17. It can check for potential hearing issues and may even be able to determine body temperature through the ear canal.

• Apple may integrate a built-in hearing test feature, similar to the app Mimi.

• The FDA has recently allowed hearing aids to be sold over the counter in the US, so Apple is exploring the idea of positioning AirPods as hearing aids. The partially deaf just got sexier!

• The release of updated AirPods Pro with new health features may be several months or even years away as AirPods Pro typically follow a three-year refresh cycle.

When they release, Tarzan might start ignoring the wife so that she thinks he is deaf and buys him a new pair of AirPods! But that’s a fight for another day!

After all the controversy of Donald Trump being removed from Twitter, he founded Truth Social in 2022. It is meant to be a social media platform that facilitates open and free communication without discriminating on the basis of political ideology.
