🔎Chickens are getting jacked, thanks to Cape Town

Welcome to The Jungle - We are here to make it seem like you stay up-to-date with the news!

Here’s what Tarzan has for you today:

  • Crazy Chickens: Cape Town is changing the chicken game!

  • Ruined Reddit?: Big moves happening - let Tarzan catch you up.

  • Brave BMW: BMW invests in electric cars for South Africa.

Is Reddit trying to recover from previous mistakes?

For those asking - WHAT THE HELL IS REDDIT? Its the 9th most popular social Media app in the US, making it one of the top social media apps in the world. 25% of Americans use this app on a daily basis. So…. yeah, its pretty big.

Despite revenue for Reddit being in the region of $500million, they are a loss-making company. Tarzan expects shareholders are not too happy about that and would prefer the company to start making some profits - better yet - become a publicly listed company.

There’s a lot going on with Reddit right now but here is the low-down:

  • Unlike Facebook and twitter, Reddit doesn’t charge moderation fees and has allowed 3rd parties to access data through APIs

  • ChatGPT is a good example of a 3rd party that got a butt-load of data for FREE

  • With Reddit now trying to be profitable, they announced that they will now start charging developers for accessing data through APIs

  • This change causes difficulties for many 3rd parties and led to protests by subreddit moderators supporting the affected developers

This blackout that protestors began is definitely causing waves in Reddit’s daily revenue figures, HOWEVER, the protestors confirmed that this will be a 48-hour protest.

Sooooo, Reddit just needs to wait out the 48-hour protest - we will keep our eyes peeled to see if the protests have caused any change of mind.

Office Teaser

Office teasers are here for Tarzan to help you stand out in the office or through any virtual interaction with your colleagues - it’s a pleasure!

Before “cheese!”, what was a common word that was said while taking photos in the early 1800s?

In the 1840s, it was considered childish to smile for pictures so it became popular for people to say “prunes” instead of “cheese” in order to keep their mouths taut.

From “Come on, Karen - Grow up and say ‘prunes’ for the photo!” to “We’re taking a photo, Karen - Lighten up and say ‘cheese’”!

Swol chickens, all thanks to Cape Town!

As every boet in Joburg would tell you, protein is key to getting not only healthy but lean and mean!

A company in Cape Town took a different approach with regard to protein sources. Maltento, has looked to insects when creating a clean, traceable and consistent nutrition solution for the future.

If you are getting kind of grossed out, dont worry! The insect protein is meant for chicken feed not for you.

Here’s why Maltento sparked a glimmer in Tarzan’s eye today:

  • Their factory is capable of shipping 15 tonnes of soldier fly larvae to the US

  • Maltento minimize their impact on natural resources as insect-based protein requires 95 times less natural resources than animal-based protein.

  • The company has just secured a $3.3m (R62m) investment from Sand River to grow its palatability enhancement, Palate+.

Tarzan loves the smell of foreign money entering South Africa and creating more much-needed jobs!

Has someone told BMW that South Africa has electricity problems?

*Tarzan typing while loadshedding is under full effect* - BMW South Africa will invest R4.2 billion over five years to prepare its Rosslyn plant for electric vehicle production - It’ll be fiiiiiiine.

  • the hybrid next-generation X3 will be the first electric vehicle fully manufactured in SA for the global market. Production will begin in the second half of 2024.

  • The investment secures the future of the Rosslyn plant and the livelihoods of over 20,000 employees.

  • BMW said that they made this decision independently without the news of government incentives - yeah, right!

Its amazing to see confidence in the South African infrastructure from multinational companies - But DAMN! I can barely microwave a woolies meal without getting hit with loadshedding. There is a lot of work to be done! However, from the aspect of building in South Africa to export overseas, Tarzan supports job creation and foreign money for the South African economy!
